iExposure, a self-guided internet treatment for social anxiety
iExposure asks people to hold a simulated video call with a stranger, over and over, from their own computer, while we record where they look and how their voice changes as they speak. The idea is that the parts of exposure therapy that make it work do not actually require a therapist in the room, and that a well-designed website can deliver them to people who would never make it to a clinic. The current trial, funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, is looking at whether shifts in attention and in the voice explain who improves and who does not.
